2018 Cabernet Franc
2018 was our first crop harvest off of these Cabernet Franc vines. 2018 was a challenging year as the Finger Lakes were faced with relentless rain. Three different pickings of fruit occurred with efforts to let clusters hang on the vine as long as possible before compromising fruit quality. The fruit was hand-selected and harvested between October 9th and 17th between 19 and 20 brix. Between the difficult weather and the vines being so young, a modest ton of fruit was harvested. After the primary fermentation ceased, the wine was inoculated with ML culture and rested in French Oak barrels for 10 months.
The 2018 Cabernet Franc is clear and ruby in color. The nose has aromas of cooked black cherry and prune with subtle oak tones. The palate is dry with medium tannins and well-balanced acid and alcohol. Primary elements in the palate support nose aromas - cooked dark fruits - with notable earthiness coming through as tobacco and cedar.
